Mounted Bearings: Application Training

Want to learn a little more about Light Duty Mounted Bearings?

View the following presentation outlining the different type of bearings, materials used, and applications where mounted bearings are commonly found in.

What are Light Duty Bearings?

Pillow block or flange mounted light duty bearings mount bearings safely enabling the outer ring to be stationary while allowing rotation of the inner ring. Housed bearings are bolted to a foundation through the holes in the base. On some styles, seals are provided to prevent dust and other contaminants from entering the housing. The housing provides a clean environment for the bearing to freely rotate, increasing their performance and duty cycle.

What is a Pillow Block bearing?

Pillow Block Bearings are bearing units that are contained inside a housing unit. The housing provides a rigid and secure positioning while allowing the bearing unit to rotate within a clean contained environment. The housing is bolted to a foundation allowing the outer ring of the bearing to remain stationary while the inner ring rotates. Housed bearings are generally used in light duty applications.

What is a Flange Mount bearing?

Flange Mount Bearings are bearing units contained inside a housing unit. The housing provides a rigid and secure position while allowing the bearing unit to rotate within a clean, contained environment. The housing is bolted to a foundation allowing the outer ring of the bearing to remain stationary while the inner ring rotates. Housed bearings are most commonly used in light duty applications.

What different housing materials does Climax offer?

From stock Climax housed bearings are available in lightweight non-corrosive zinc die cast, pressed steel with a rust-proof finish, stainless steel, and self-lubricating UHMW-PE which is USDA and FDA approved.

What different types of bearing inserts does Climax offer?

Climax offers 3 different types of bearing inserts: ball bearings, bronze sleeve bearings, and UHMW-PE Bearings.

Ball Bearings include two set screws used to secure the unit to the shaft for added load support. Ball bearing units are encased in a nonconductive, oil resistant rubber liner in steel housing units

Bronze Sleeve Bearings are porous flanged bronze bearing inserts which are press-fit in a zinc die cast sphere with a felt strip for lubrication in steel housing. In zinc die cast housings, Continue reading “What different types of bearing inserts does Climax offer?”

Do bearings require lubrication?

As with most moving parts, proper lubrication is important to ensure the life of the product as well as reduce friction. Climax bearings require manual lubrication while others are self-lubricating. For those bearings requiring manual lubrication, an accessible oil-hole is provided. UHMW-PE solid bearings or UHMW-PE inserts are self-lubricating.

What Tolerances are Climax Ball Bearing units manufactured to?

All ball bearing units supplied by Climax are manufactured to tolerance class ABEC-1 per ANSI/ABMA Std 7, latest revision. Bearing tolerances are based on the nominal bore or inner diameter of the bearing. The following table lists tolerances for the bearing bore, bore runout, bearing width, and the diameter of the shaft on which the bearing will be mounted.
